CTF 5 cooling tower
The CTF 5 cooling tower (hereinafter “micro-cooler”) is a compact box-type atmospheric contact water cooler for industrial applications. Each unit is customized according to the required heat exchange performance of the individual application.
Cooling airflow is provided by a blower unit which is driven by an electric motor. The micro-cooler unit is designed for industrial applications using technical cooling water with a maximum input temperature of 65 ºC. Short-term heat overload is allowed only to a maximum hot water input temperature of 70 ºC. The micro-cooler is not designed for operation in potentially explosive environments. Electrical equipment and wiring is installed in compliance with the Czech standard ČSN 33 0300 article. 4.1.1 (for external environments).
The micro-cooler is designed and manufactured as an independent unit, which can be placed at almost any site. Installation of the micro-cooler requires special skill and knowledge; hence it can be carried out only by FANS technicians. Service is supplied by means of outsourcing, or in some cases by spare parts deliveries.
Micro-coolers can be equipped with the following types of electric motors:
- Asynchronous single-speed motor
- Special double-speed PM-type motor
- Asynchronous motor with gearbox
- Motor with a frequency converter
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
Hot water is brought by a feeder pipeline and fed into the distributor in the upper part of the structure. The end nozzles of the water distribution arms spray hot water evenly over all surfaces of the cooling tower interior. The cooling surface is formed by the interior cooler's 3D-shaped ribs, which fill the whole interior of the tower. Hot water runs down the cooling ribs and partially evaporates while dissipating its heat energy into the cooling air coming up the tower interior against the water flow. The air is sucked in through holes at the bottom of the tower, and after passing through the cooling chamber it comes out of the structure into the atmosphere, through a propeller blower fixed on top of the tower structure. Cooled water is collected by dripping plates and led into a bottom basin, from which it is pumped into the cooling circuit by a return pipe.
Cooled technical water must not contain any abrasive particles or organic solvents. It cannot have aggressive properties, and the optimum hardness for operation of the equipment is in the range from 7 to 8 ºN.
The CTF5 cooling tower includes these components:
- bearing structure (steel)
- shell (steel, fiberglass, PVC)
